With about thirty players on the Buchholz lacrosse team, their first year is all expiermental. The team fell short of Varsity status due to administrational problems. But the team is still starting out strong. Only three players have played before, but the rest are catching up quick. The coaches are Blaine Patrick, the assistant coach at University of Florida, and Kendall Hale who has played for five years. The team practices 5 times a week for 2 hours a day on a crappy boys and girls club field. The grass is shredded, players are constantly falling in the mud, and we drink from a hose spicket, but thats what memories and team building is about. And truthfully it's better than where they were practicing at (a roller hockey rink with a low bounce ball at a public park). The team will have many games to play this season and are already gauranteed to win at least two. The team will play a five game series with a rival school and the winner will be said to "Own the 352". This season is all about learning the game and gaining expierience. Most of the players already know eachother, mainly because they were all a group before lacrosse and joined simultaneously. This adds so much to the "family" feel of the team. Player's know what the person is thinking before they even pass it to them. This will be interesting to see in a game when the players arent trying to kill eachother like in practice and actually work as a team. The dedication to the sport can be seen every where, for example: if a player misses practice, they can be gauranteed to be hounded the next day about why they weren't at practice. All the players care about eachother and there a very few rivalries amongst the players. To sum it up for the Buchholz Bobcats: Its all history in the making. |
